Lamongan, October 13, 2025 β The Department of Islamic Economics, in collaboration with the International Affairs Office (KUI) of Universitas Muhammadiyah Lamongan (UMLA), conducted an International Curriculum Benchmarking activity with the Islamic Business School (IBS), Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM). Held online on Monday, October 13, 2025, from 9.00 to 11.00 Malaysian time, this activity marks a strategic step for UMLA in strengthening academic quality and expanding international cooperation.
π Learning the Implementation of Outcome-Based Education (OBE)
The benchmarking aimed to:
Study the implementation of the Outcome-Based Education (OBE) curriculum at the Islamic Business School, UUM;
Gain insight into program governance and quality assurance mechanisms at UUM;
Strengthen institutional collaboration between UMLA and UUM.
π₯ Delegates from UMLA and IBS UUM
UMLAβs delegation was led by Dias Tiara Putri Utomo, S.Pd., M.Pd., Head of the International Affairs Office, along with the leadership of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) and lecturers from the Islamic Economics Study Program. From UUM, the session was attended by Prof. Dr. Selamah Maamor, Dean of the Islamic Business School, accompanied by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nashirah Abu Bakar, Dr. Amirul Haqeem Abd Ghani, Dr. Muhamad Abrar Bahaman, and Dr. Muhammad Fakhirin Che Majid.
π Focus on Curriculum Review and Assurance of Learning
The discussion was lively and insightful, focusing on curriculum structure, OBE implementation, and assurance of learning mechanisms through measurable learning outcomes. Prof. Selamah emphasized the importance of clarity and precision in designing learning outcomes.
βIt is important to have assurance of learning through specific rubrics for measuring learning outcomes. Pay attention to each action verb in the outcomes and how it is assessed,β she stated.
π¬ Appreciation and Future Collaboration
Head of the Islamic Economics Study Program, Elvina Assadam, S.E., M.M., expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to learn directly from IBS UUM.
βWe are very grateful for the time and insights shared. There are many valuable lessons we can adapt to strengthen our curriculum at UMLA,β she said.
Meanwhile, Dias Tiara Putri Utomo, S.Pd., M.Pd., Head of the International Affairs Office, also shared her optimism for future cooperation.
βWe hope this benchmarking will be the starting point for broader collaboration between UMLA and UUM β in academic development, research, and faculty or student exchanges,β she added.
