Lamongan, July 15, 2025 — A student of the Islamic Economics Study Program at Universitas Muhammadiyah Lamongan (UMLA), Nurul Fatonah, has successfully completed a four-month industrial internship at LAZISMU (Lembaga Amil Zakat, Infaq, dan Shadaqah Muhammadiyah) in Gresik. This fieldwork activity is part of the integrated curriculum that encourages students to be directly involved in the professional world and gain practical understanding of Islamic economics.

Throughout the internship, Nurul gained valuable experience in the professional management of zakat, infaq, and sadaqah, including program planning, fundraising, distribution of benefits, and accountable reporting. In addition, she participated in community service activities, which are a central focus of this Islamic-based zakat institution.

This program aligns with the Diktisaintek Berdampak initiative, a new policy from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek), which replaces the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program. Through this initiative, students are encouraged to actively engage in project-based and service-based learning, making real contributions to society.

This impactful internship program will also be converted into course credits that align with the intended learning outcomes, allowing students to complete their studies on time without additional academic burdens.

The Head of the Islamic Economics Study Program at UMLA stated that student involvement in this internship not only enhances technical and social skills but also strengthens the spirit of service and professionalism based on Islamic values.

“We encourage students not only to study in the classroom but also to understand and directly engage with social realities. This is part of our effort to produce resilient, responsive, and impactful graduates,” he said.

Through its partnership with LAZISMU Gresik, UMLA demonstrates its commitment to supporting the transformation of higher education through practical experience, Islamic values, and tangible social contribution. This program is expected to continue strengthening collaboration between academia and Islamic-based social institutions.
