Lamongan, 5 August 2025 — The Islamic Economics Study Program of Universitas Muhammadiyah Lamongan (UMLA) once again demonstrates its commitment to producing graduates who excel academically while remaining sensitive to community needs.

In collaboration with Inisiatif Zakat Indonesia (IZI) Surabaya, UMLA Islamic Economics students distributed business capital assistance to productive Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in need of financial support. Prior to distribution, the students conducted direct surveys to ensure the assistance reached the right recipients.

This activity is part of the students’ final project for the Zakat, Infak, Sedekah, and Waqf Management course, implemented using a Project Based Learning (PBL) approach under the guidance of lecturer Fifi Hakimi, S.EI., M.SEI. According to Laksono, Head of the 2022 Islamic Economics cohort, one of the beneficiaries was a mustahiq who runs a small shop and sells fried snacks door-to-door.

The Islamic Economics Study Program expressed great appreciation for the students’ dedication and empathy. “Although this activity is part of a final project, it has a real impact on the community and fosters students’ empathy for their surroundings,” stated the Program.

The event was successfully carried out and is expected to inspire other students to continue contributing to community economic empowerment.
