The Sharia Economics Study Program of Muhammadiyah University of Lamongan (Umla) successfully conducted a Community Service activity on October 5, 2024, at SMK Muhammadiyah 5 Babat.

The theme of this community service activity was "Mentoring Waste Bank Management as a Potential Business for Housewives Based on Maqashid Sharia."

The activity was attended by 40 participants from the Women's Family Welfare Movement (PKK) TP-BPWIR Pucakwangi, the Aisyiyah Branch Leadership, and Nasyiatul Aisyiyah Pucakwangi.

The two-month activity, from September to October 2024, aimed to empower novice community members through waste bank management.

This activity was funded by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek).

The activity leader, Fifi Hakimi SE MSEI AWP, explained that the goal of this mentoring was to increase housewives' understanding of waste banks and their management in accordance with Maqashid Sharia.

"We want to demonstrate that waste management can be a potential business opportunity, in line with sharia principles," said Fifi.

Understanding Waste Banks

"A waste bank is a concept for collecting dry household waste, such as plastic and paper, with a system of converting it from waste to cash. This is expected to increase community participation in sorting and recycling waste," she explained.

Fifi added that this activity is designed to empower women in Puncakwangi Village to gain a comprehensive understanding of waste management, from zero-waste principles to digital marketing.

"We also provide training in making products from waste, which has resulted in products like aromatherapy candles and laundry soap," she said.

Diverse Materials for Empowerment

The material presented in this activity included training in making products from waste, delivered by Luthfiatu Kanina, SPd MFarm.

In addition, Elvina Assadam SE MM also provided material on digital marketing, explaining how to utilize applications like Instagram and TikTok to market products made from waste.

"Marketing is now easier with technology. We hope the participants can implement the knowledge they gain to run their businesses effectively," said Elvina.

This activity is expected to not only provide participants with in-depth understanding but also make them agents of change in their communities.

Thus, Puncakwangi Village can become an example of a creative, innovative, and highly competitive village.

It is hoped that this empowerment will make women agents of change in addressing the negative impacts of waste and transforming it into a business opportunity based on the principles of sharia.

This Community Service Program is chaired by Fifi Hakimi, SE, MSEI AWP, with members Elvina Assadam, SE, MM, and Faricha Maf'ula, SEI MIFP.
