Lamongan, October 5, 2025 – The Sharia Economics Study Program at the University of Muhammadiyah Lamongan (UMLA) held a Welcoming Party for new students for the 2025/2026 academic year. The lively event, held on Sunday, October 5, 2025, served as a significant opportunity to welcome the new generation of the UMLA Sharia Economics academic community.

The event, held on campus, was attended by students from all classes, from the class of 2022 to the class of 2025. The main goal of the event was to strengthen student bonds, introduce new students to campus life, and foster a spirit of learning and togetherness within the Sharia Economics Study Program.

The event opened with a warm welcome from the Head of the Sharia Economics Study Program, Elvina Assadam, S.E., M.E. In her remarks, she provided inspiring advice to all students to always cultivate a pure intention in pursuing knowledge. She stated that seeking knowledge is not merely an academic obligation, but also a form of worship to Allah SWT.

She further conveyed a valuable message, inspired by Imam Shafi'i's perspective on the five main requirements for seeking knowledge: intelligence, enthusiasm, sincerity, financial resources, teacher guidance, and a long commitment. "Being a student means being ready for the process. Knowledge will not come to those who are lazy and undedicated. It requires patience, sincerity, and hard work," Elvina told the students.

Following the motivational and welcoming session, the atmosphere became more lively with various games and group activities. These exciting games were designed to hone cooperation, communication, and solidarity among students across all classes. Freshmen enthusiastically participated in each session, while senior students actively participated in guiding and mentoring their juniors.

According to the organizing committee, these games were designed to help new students feel less awkward and quickly adapt to the campus environment. "We want a truly familial atmosphere to be felt among the UMLA Sharia Economics students. This is our shared home," said one of the event organizers.

Toward the end of the event, the committee announced academic achievement awards for students with the highest Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) from each class. These awards were given as a token of appreciation for students' hard work and dedication in academics. The award recipients were:

Alifatus Zahroh, student class of 2022/2023, with a GPA of 3.96

Lely Putri Syafa'atul Iftitah, student class of 2023/2024, with a GPA of 3.91

Nadia Arista, student class of 2024/2025, with a GPA of 4.00

The awards were met with enthusiastic applause from all attendees. It is hoped that the award recipients will serve as role models and motivation for other students to continue achieving and be enthusiastic in their pursuit of knowledge.

The event concluded with a group photo session with all participants, committee members, and lecturers. A cheerful and friendly atmosphere permeated the event, signifying the close-knit community of the UMLA Islamic Economics Department.

Through this Welcoming Party, it is hoped that new students will become more familiar with the academic environment, adapt to campus culture, and foster a strong enthusiasm for learning. The Head of the Study Program expressed strong hopes that all UMLA Sharia Economics students will be able to balance intellectual and spiritual intelligence, while upholding Islamic values in every step of their studies.

"Study diligently, continue to excel, and make every process a field of worship. Because seeking knowledge is a long journey toward life's blessings," concluded Elvina Assadam in her closing message.
